Into The Autumn

As the seasons begin to change and we turn to our Autumn swimming schedule for October, it provides the perfect opportunity to stop and reflect on our first season swimming at Lakeside.

“Having grown up doing all my activities on the water I never saw the appeal to spend much time in it and can honestly say I have overlooked OWS until now. Maybe that has come with growing up but swimming before/after work at the lake this season has been reviving.

Like many, I have been guilty of being unable to strike a good work / life balance in the past. Discovering Open Water swimming has been more than just taking up a new sport, it’s a lifestyle, my escape and my reset button, the thing I do to reconnect with myself. “

Opening a new open water swim venue post UK lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic has been challenging and has been a turbulent six months for many. We have been so conscious to take to the water safely. The safety of our swimmers is anchored in everything we do at Swim Lakeside and we recognise the importance of swimming to all our mental health and wellbeing. each and everyone of you that has joined us for a socially distanced dip this summer. Your feedback and support since opening in June has been amazing.

With the NOWCA system and our sheltered 200m loop that can be broken down to smaller distances, it’s provided a great entry level venue and somewhere to practise drills and skills for our swimmers. Now the weather is turning, and suiting up becomes evermore a necessity, we are excited to be able to open our brand new facilities to you all at Swim Lakeside. Hot showers and changing rooms will now feel all the more luxury after swimming all summer as an outdoor venue. Along with this, sessions have now been extended to 90mins and a bigger 400m course will be available alongside the existing 50m, 100m & 200m loop. We are so excited for the future and continuing to grow our community of passionate, friendly and safe open water swimmers.
